Correspondence (undated, 1856-1923, 1942-1948, 1965-1966);genealogical charts; newspaper obituaries (Aug. 1901 and Dec. 1922) and clippings(undated, 1965-1971); photographs; and an autobiographical typed transcript (1991)documenting the lives of a rural Minnesota family from Cannon Falls, Goodhue County,Minnesota. Consisting mainly of letters between a mother and daughter, thecorrespondence focuses on family matters but also portrays Midwestern small-townlife in the early 1900s. Topics include the health and upbringing of a prematureinfant, illnesses, births and deaths, domestic activities, church and socialfunctions, child rearing, business matters, and reactions to new technologies(telephone, phonograph, motion pictures, automobile). The autobiography is by thegrandson and son, respectively, of the two principal correspondents.
